Above: Stadsloket is one of the city’s administrative services offices, which are scattered around A’dam’s many neighborhoods. Below, two last photos taken along the marathon’s route in October, just west of the Rijksmuseum which you can see in the pics.

Runners passing what I think of as the “front entrance” to Vondelpark on marathon Sunday this year. (Front b/c it’s closer to the city center than the entrance near my old place, at the opposite end of the park near my old place.)

The past two weekends, my cousin(‘s son) Sam was on a visit with me here in Amsterdam. This meant I got out more as tour guide than I’ve been able to do lately, and on foot often enough that I saw things differently. Interestingly, the very last post in this particular series appeared just shortly before I flew out of Dhaka during covid, and in that post I actually referenced good ol’ Sam, who’d been a big fan of my various series and posts during the covid months in Dhaka. This is mostly half-marathoners passing the Rijksmuseum last Sunday, with a few of the last marathoners also reaching the last couple miles…

Yesterday (Sunday the 17th) the Amsterdam Marathon was run. It’s also got an 8km walk, and a half-marathon. All the races started and ended at the Olympic Stadium, which I’ve shown you from various angles since I moved here in July, pretty much. It’s a 10-minute walk from my home, and all the races ran right past my building…as you see 🙂 I took some of these on Friday evening when the sun came out at the end of my work-from-home day and I decided a walk was in order, only to find all these new temporary things in my neighborhood. On Saturday there was both a City Walk, some kind of organized group walk thing (sponsor of the signs you see below), and some great park art in ArtZuid (ArtSouth), here in the southern district of Amsterdam where I now reside. All lovely, and yes – more photos for the future!
