From The Air.13

Last photos from the airplane when I left SF after my last US visit in early April, all three in order in which they were taken as our plane flew north along the central valley not long after take-off from SFO. I’m reasonably confident that’s Lake Beryessa in the first photo, and then more of the Snow Mountain Wilderness area.

Looking west from California’s central valley towards Snow Mountain Wilderness & the various reservoirs and natural lakes on the eastern slopes and foothills of that range of mountains, not long after my last take-off from SF in early April.

Mountains.7

Since the last sequence celebrated the northern summer at its peak, I decided we’d give you a serious change of pace by celebrating snow-capped peaks in those lovely mountains of northern Iraq that we’ve been showing you. It might also provide a wee bit of mental coolness to anyone sweating through a lovely but hot long northern summer day :-). These won’t be your last views of those dramatic mountains in this series, but they’re just about all of them in which I could discern at least a dusting of snow somewhere in the frame of the photo. Ah, and one note: to put such large photo galleries up with an interesting layout, I use a different interface which the blog’s host has re-allowed us to use on occasion. However, if you’re viewing this on a small screen it’s quite likely your interface will mess it up pretty thoroughly, so if you’re only seeing one or two photos, try again when you’re back on a larger-sized computer screen if you’re interested. Enjoy.

Sticking with our theme of (snow-capped) mountains, you’ll note that some of those white things in the distance are the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains, which run along the western edge of California & at the California Nevada border. Given the time of the photo, this was over the central valley north and east of SF, not too terribly long after our take-off in April. 🙂

From Sea to Sierra (SFO->EWR)

If you haven’t been to the San Francisco Bay Area yourself, and if you wonder why I’m always so happy to get home to it; or why visitors to SF and the bay area so often rave about it — a good place to start is to take in the photo just above. I’m still working my way through photos I took last year, before I headed over to Bangui, where I’ve been now for more than two months. I shot all of the photos in this post during a take-off from SFO en route to EWR last year, in May — but what I’m posting are just photos from the bay area and up til the time we reached the still snow-covered Sierra Nevadas. Since it was nearly a year ago, and this year hasn’t seen as much snow — just remember: it’s last year! Enjoy!
