A good friend dropped off two quince from her tree. I looked up how to poach quince (my childhood memory was of something mouth-puckering sour that I vowed I’d never make the mistake of eating again) and was daunted by the last (of many) steps: “simmer the slices for 2.5 hours”. But, out of gratitude to my friend who’d driven many virus-possible kilometres to give them to me, I did as directed. And discovered that poached quince is delicious. Delicious enough that I’m searching out where I can buy them—local farmers markets and supermarkets don’t have them.
Looks like they’re about ready to be plucked now!
