Urban Garden.139

No, I’m not yet back in Amsterdam, but I did collect some lovely photos of the spring bloom before I left. Thanks to everyone who’s been happy to see regular posts resume, I’ve decided I’ll try to go daily again, so this is being posted as I wait to board a flight from Austin back to SFO. Next up, more of Northern California, no doubt mixed with more from this weekend’s family Texas swing along with more from A’dam, and possibly even Bangkok or Hong Kong where I stopped for work on my way over…

And Now For Something Personal

Above, my mother (older) and aunt around 1942 in a spring field of Texas bluebonnets near their then-home in Texas. Four years ago today, Mom passed away, so I and a number of close family have gathered in Texas to appreciate these and other lovely spring wildflowers of Texas in her honor, and to create new memories with each other, and with my aunt, who’s now 80+ years more experienced that she is in the (colorized: this photo was originally taken before photos came in color) photo above. It was on the morning of March 30th four years ago that I posted an earlier Ode to Mom, which I’m revisiting now myself because our loved ones do live on in our memory.

We don’t yet have a photo of all of us now gathered here in Austin, but in the days or weeks ahead I hope and expect I’ll have a chance to show you more. But for the moment, for any friends and readers who’re curious how and why pics from the US have begun to reappear in this li’l ol’ blog that’s been sleepy since January…this is why :-).

City Views.171

This was my parting view of my lovely neighborhood and home in spring, before boarding the bus for Schphol that I’m on as I type this. Yes, friends, I’m about to start a complicated and long trip that’ll involve a week of work in Bangkok and Hong Kong, followed by some family and home time in CA and TX, before returning to this lovely circle after the crocuses and daffodils which grace it each spring have faded.

I finally got off the train in Leiden, for a tour of the old observatory. Turns out the blooms are farther ahead here than where I’ve been wandering lately in A’dam.
