From The Air.26

These are from the September flight home from Geneva, flying along the shore of Lac Leman as noted in a prior post of cloud formations I watched later in this journey. At the airport, the border with France s well this side of those mountains; here, the mountains are likely entirely in Switzerland.

I wondered if this might be Worcester, but I didn’t have my bearings well enough to know.

Mid-August’s flight to Boston — same as the last entry, but now we’ve crossed the Atlantic and are over what I’m choosing to categorize as Maine, until someone can correct me.

Nope, not Switzerland. We’ll still bounce around a bit, naturally…

My sunrise journey at altitude on the morning of the 12th, traveling south-southeast past the northwestern shores of first the Bielersee, then Lac de Neuchatel, and finally Lac Léman before lining up for a landing at Geneva’s international airport gave me such stunning views that I decided I’ll catch show them all for the next several posts and also thus get my series numbers slightly more aligned. If you check the last post in this series, you’ll see all the first two of those lakes, with smaller Murtensee to the south. Now you’re watching the sun rise over what I’m fairly sure is the easternmost corner of Lac Léman, by the city of Montreux.

Indeed any time I’m desperate for an island to fill a slot in this particular series (it happens – remember this one?), my life got **way** easier when I moved into this place. There are two islands visible from this vantage in my current home: both are around the middle of the image, near the far shore of Sloterplas, which is the name of this lake. The closest one is immediately in front of the large lighted building above, which happens to be the swimming complex where the Dutch national team trains. Above was a pre-sunrise full moon in late September; just below dawn clouds the morning after the beautiful sunset at the bottom.

Signs of the City.71

The past two weekends, my cousin(‘s son) Sam was on a visit with me here in Amsterdam. This meant I got out more as tour guide than I’ve been able to do lately, and on foot often enough that I saw things differently. Interestingly, the very last post in this particular series appeared just shortly before I flew out of Dhaka during covid, and in that post I actually referenced good ol’ Sam, who’d been a big fan of my various series and posts during the covid months in Dhaka. This is mostly half-marathoners passing the Rijksmuseum last Sunday, with a few of the last marathoners also reaching the last couple miles…
