Coasting.52

Those are pacific harbor seals at the mouth of the Russian River in Jenner, plus a surfer or two.

County Views.121

On the drive up to Humboldt, we took the coast road which meant we got to stop at one of my favorite county parks with its lovely seaside redwood forest :-).

Coasting.51

Herewith, sadly, the last photos from our few nights up in Humboldt County with my big(gest) brother last month, thus the end with a sunset. (Thanks for coming down, Chuck!) I don’t have a ton more “coasting-appropriate” photos left, so either I’ll need to get back to a visible coastline again soon, or this series will also go into hibernation like a few others for which photos are getting thin in the folders. Original reason I started these series: to get myself out the door looking for things to post! 🙂

City Views.181

I’ve biked and even walked past this building literally hundreds of times, but had never noticed this lovely mural which in my view fits well into my “graffiti art” tag, though the other graffito of which I’ve left a small portion to the bottom right is more in the “teenage annoyance” category than the “art” one. Either it’s new, or the door was always up, or I was just focused on other things. This mural depicts what you’d have seen in the old days, when trams ran regularly down this line, with the “Haarlemmermeerstation” right behind it.

This is the view a person would have had, in those days, if they’d swiveled 90 degrees to the left, from the perspective in which I took this photo. That’s more info that you need, but perhaps useful for any who’ve visited me, in situating yourself. I’ve shown blog viewers the brick building in one or two posts taken from its far side, and this alleyway (which is now mostly used for bikes, parking, gyms and flea-market stores) only once thus far…but I’ve passed along it just about any time I took photos that are tagged “Park Schinkeleilanden,” for anyone curious enough to try to fit it all together :-).

Village Views.41

During that break from blogging, I got back to Iraq again for a work visit, including a lovely Saturday exploring the beautiful touristy mountains and waterfalls north of Erbil. Finally getting around to sorting and posting some of those, now. This was not, obviously, peak season — folks flock to these cool, waterfall-blessed high-elevation villages and mountains for relief all summer when the sun cooks the plains. We, on the other hand, got to see snow (higher up on the mountains in the distance, below) and a glimpse of winter :-).

Village Views.40

The cluster of houses in the middle distance, on the far side of Bodega Bay, is the village of the same name. This photo was taken from the high cliffs on the ocean-facing side of Bodega Head, some of which you saw in the last “Coasting” entry a bit further down.

City Lights.20

Last City Lights entry from that lovely dinner on the lagoon my first evening in Abidjan last week. Maybe the last City Lights entry for a while, since the days grow wonderfully long here in Amsterdam, which means I rarely have much chance to observe city lights lately 🙂

Islands.20

Same rainbow as the lost post, but this time looking over at the fishing boats & Woodley Island so as to keep my “series” lined up 🙂
